Coin Collecting Specialities Generalists.
There are a number of different methods for trading or collecting of coins. Coin collecting is a fun and extensive hobby, and it can include coins that were in circulation for a brief time, coins that are unique because of some beautiful or interesting reason, or coins that are especially old.
Other items can include coins that were minted with errors, thus they are extremely rare, and this makes them worth a lot of money.
A coin collector who is a “Generalist” is a collector that decides that they want to collect a wide variety of kinds of coins. You can work and obtain a wide and amazing collection if you have some basic resources. The number and kinds of coins that is available for a Generalist boggles the mind.
Even if you are a generalist, most people narrow their scope of collecting at least a little. For example, you can be a generalist and collect coins from a single country, or from a range of dates. Being a Generalist coin collector is a choice that gives you a lot of flexibility, but unless you are truly indiscriminate about what types of coins you seek, being a Generalist still can give you flexibility to narrow your choices a little.
How do you tell what type of coin collector you are? Well a lot depends on your choices, and what you like to collect in coins. If you are a casual coin collector, you collect coins at a random basis, and the type of coins truly does not matter to you, you collect whatever coins happen to strike your fancy, and the size, shape, denomination, brand, country or kind just does not matter.
Believe it or not, many people fit in this category, and they have a lot of fun even though they don’t differentiate at all the kind of coins they collect.
You can be a curious collector, and you may buy coins if they are not expensive and you have the discretionary income available. This type of collector tend to not be a generalist, but even at the curious collector status, you may still be a generalist if the kind of coin does not much matter to you, no matter what kind you still enjoy collecting.
Both of these types of collectors so far can be Generalists and not really care what kind of coins they collect.
The last type is the serious collector. By the very nature you will likely specialize, and choose a certain type of coin to collect. You may also be a specialist and look for specific coins to purchase as investment coins.
