Gold History Egypt
Human beings have been fascinated with gold and have found valuable since prehistoric times. It has been used for many things including jewelry, rituals, decorations, statues, ornaments and more. One area that did a great deal with gold very early on is Egypt. Ancient Egyptian writing, which are hieroglyphs describe gold a great deal and the many ways that it was used. The Mitanni king Tushratta even was claimed to have said that gold was more plentiful then dirt inside of Egypt.
Egypt had many resources when it came to gold and this made them one of the major areas producing gold for a large portion of history. One of the more plentiful areas of Egypt when it came to gold was Nubia. One of the earliest known maps that have been found in Egypt is called the Turin papyrus, and shows the geology of Nubia along with the gold mine and more. This and other bits of information served to inspire many to hunt for gold in these areas.
There are many parts of the history of Egypt that we have been able to find that have gold on them or that had gold previously on them. One very well known example of gold’s use in Egypt and art that has been found is the mask of Tutankhamen which is actually a funerary mask that had a great deal of gold in its craftsmanship. There are also other very well known pieces of Egyptian history and artifacts that have had to do with gold or have been made primarily out of gold. This is something that has fascinated many other countries about Egypt and which has also caused a great deal of issues for Egypt in the past when it came too others wanting what was within their land.
