Gold History Old Testament
There are many parts of the Old Testament that have references to gold in one form or another as being used for currency, decoration, or in other ways. There are multiple points in the Old Testament that these references show up and two of them are in Genesis 2:11 and in the Book of Revelations 21:21. You are also able to find other reference in Matthew and other sections of the Old Testament.
This would suggest that even back then and in the area of Jerusalem along with other areas that are mentioned throughout the bible that gold was prized and thought of as it is now, and has been in other areas and parts of history. There are also parts of the Old Testament that refer to gold very negatively because of it appearing to signify or encourage greed. There is a section of the Old Testament where they talk of Moses bringing down the Ten Commandments and showing them to the people. Their creation was a golden calf that they ended up worshiping, which was not something that was look upon as good but rather as committing a sin which was signified through the gold and their actions.
When the Old Testament refers to the city, New Jerusalem it has the phrase “made of pure gold, clear as crystal” in reference to the streets. There are parts of the Black Sea that are and were in the past famed for their gold, and some would say that this shows through in the Old Testament and parts of it that reference to gold or that this has something to do with how much gold was able to be found at that time. Gold is something that many treasure and covet for its beauty and value.
