Henry Bass is known to be one of the most notable collectors of American Gold coinage ever. He was a man that was extremely passionate about his collecting and began collecting his gold coins in around 1966. This is when he first assembled his collection of gold coins that would eventually to grow to include over 6000 gold coins. There are many different types of collections that are popular among people that collect gold coins, however Bass’ collection in particular is a one that is prized for the fact that he collected with so many different standards in mind. For example, his collection of American gold coins includes coins that were collected by mintmark and date, but he also collected by die variety and die state, which is very desirable to collectors and numismatists. This is the reason that Harry’s collection is considered to be one of the best condition sets of gold coins ever.

Harry was know to spend much of his time over around a 30 year period hunting down single pieces in order to complete a collection with standards that are much more difficult to fulfill than the average collection. This is part of the allure to the collection, especially for fellow coin collectors and numismatists. Harry collected from anywhere he could in order to find the pieces he was after, eventually purchasing pieces from many different venues including through public auctions and some through private treaty. There are many reasons that collectors imagine Harry’s collection to be more realized than many other great collectors. One of the biggest reasons is just because of his passion. He was able to be just as passionate about a worn down quarter eagle as he was about some of his more notable pieces.
