Lost Colony of Roanoke

Dare Country in current day North Carolina was home to Roanoke Island and the Colony of Roanoke. In order to establish a English settlement in the Virginia Colony, Sir Walter Raleigh financed the enterprise of the Colony of Roanoke if the late 16th century. There were many failed attempts of establishing a colony in this region by many different groups of colonists between 1585 and 1587. The last colony that attempted to establish in the Virginia colony disappeared after not receiving supplies from England while they were at war with Spain. This colony is referred to as the Lost Colony of Roanoke. There are many different explanations that have been suggested in terms of their disappearance. Many historians assume that the most likely scenario is that the colony was eventually assimilated into indigenous tribes. However, it’s the uncertainty of what actually happened that drives history enthusiasts and collectors to want to learn more about this fascinating time.

One of the most probable theories that is associated with the Lost Colony of Roanoke is that they simply left. Many historians suggest that the settlers left and decided to start settling in the Chesapeake Bay. It has also been suggested that in order to travel and settle in the Bay, they had built boats made out of the materials they got from tearing their homes down. Many people suggest that the colony was killed by a disease that plagued the colony. However this theory is often disregarded due to lack of evidence. This is because the homes of the colonists had disappeared and there were not any bodies found. This is the reason that the theory of their being a disease is probably not true. This is the reason that most people lean towards the theory of the colony settling in Chesapeake Bay as the most likely explanation for the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
