The New England Region has an extremely rich history in the history of America. The region consists of what would today be the modern states of New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Located in the Northeastern corner of the country, it was the location of one of the earliest settlements for English Pilgrims that were leaving Europe because of religious persecution. They first settled in the region in around 1620 in the colony of Plymouth on of the earliest English settlements in the New World.

The New England Region was also involved and at the forefront of the movement that would eventually abolish slavery in the 19th century. Perhaps the biggest reason is the fact that the New England Region was home to beginnings of public education as well as being one of the first American regions to be influenced and transformed by the industrial revolution.
