Royal Proclamation of 1763

In order to establish a government in the North Americas, King George III issued the Royal Proclamation of 1763 to try and create a basis for a government administration. There are several different reasons why this is important to American history. Perhaps the most notable is the fact that it help to establish a starting point for treaties for aboriginal inhabitants of Canada. This is the reason that many had referred to the Royal Proclamation of 1763 as the “Indian Magna Carta” or Indian Bill of Rights. This is the reason that the current Constitution Act says that there is nothing in Canada’s charter of rights and freedoms that can change the rights and or freedoms of Aboriginal inhabitants as outlined by the Royal Proclamation of 1763. There are many different reasons that this type of information is important. Firstly, it is the starting of trying to give aboriginals back the rights that were taken away from them. This is the reason that collectors and history enthusiasts point to the Royal Proclamation of 1763 as being something that is significant in the overall scheme of Canadian and American History. This is the reason that we have decided to put together this information.

The Proclamation also helped to do many other things in the early years of what today is Canada. For example, the proclamation was utilized as a legal tool when trying to establish colonial governments in Quebec. This is another reason that the Royal Proclamation of 1763 is so important o Canadian History. It also was used in the same way for establishing governments in Florida and Grenada. Another one of the most important things that the Royal Proclamation of 1763 helped to do is establish a large part of the interior of North America as an Indian reserve which was a huge step forward for the rights of aboriginals at the time.
