Spanish Treasure Fleet

Eleven ships had departed from Cuba, the Spanish Treasure Fleets, headed for Spain in 1715. The fleet was carrying enormous amounts of silver and the entire fleet was lost in a hurricane near what is today called Florida. To this very day it is not uncommon for beach goers to find an occasional silver coin from the fleet wash ashore.

The Spaniards along with the Indian slaves did manage to muster through the wreckage and recover some of the treasure but the rest still remains in the ocean floor. Many attempts have been made to scavenge through the wreckage and recover whatever could be found. The site remained untouched for over 250 years and in 1955, Wagner, a simple American contractor began the hunt for the lost treasure of the Spanish Treasure Fleets.

Off of the coasts of Sebastian, Florida is where the majority of the wreckage is thought to be today. The Spanish Treasure Fleets has uncovered more gold and silver than any other shipwreck before or after. Searching for lost treasures has become quite popular in recent decades especially as technology and equipment becomes more sophisticated. From this fleet of eleven ships, to date only six has been found. This still leaves five ships that are up for the taking with riches and fortunes to be discovered.

Treasure hunting has become more than a pass time for many who believe that buried deep in the ocean lies many fortunes that are just waiting on a daring soul to venture in for the taking. Many believe there are promises of wealth from hundreds of years ago just waiting to be uncovered. Yet, there are still some who venture into this type of journey with the intention of trying to put together lost pieces of a puzzle from long ago.
