This beautiful American Revolutionary Era Note was printed from engraved copper plate with scroll leafage border on left edge and has a vignette of bear with stars inside a circle, representing the constellation Ursa Major at lower left.
The Note Reads:20s, One Pound - No 7269 The Province of North Carolina is indebted to the Poffeffor hereof One Pound proc. Money to be paid out of the Public Treasury according to Act of Assembly passed December, 1771.
Serial #7269 is hand signed by North Carolina colonial officials John Rutherford, Richard Caswell, John Harvey, and Lewis de Rosset. This bill was issued in a series of 10,000. A total of £60,000 in Debenture Bills was issued pursuant to the December 1771 Act of the Assembly and printed by New Bern North Carolina printer, James Davis with ink on laid paper.
